Happy Halloween! We’re celebrating by rounding up some of the spooky movies we’ve had the pleasure of working on. Looking for psychological horror, classic supernatural horror, or a family-friendly silly Halloween movie? We’ve got something for everyone.
The Conjuring 2 (2016), the sequel to The Conjuring (2013), continues the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren– the paranormal investigators and authors head to England to help solve a case of apparent demonic possession plaguing the Hodgson family. This spooky supernatural horror flick, the third installment of The Conjuring Universe, uses all the classic elements of horror films to set the tone: heightened sound effects, dark corners, and, of course, old houses full of vintage wallpaper. In this case, On Air printed custom wallpaper for the hallway and bedroom where the demonic possession primarily took place, adding to the eerie vibe.
The Front Room, a psychological horror film based on a 2016 short story of the same name by Susan Hill, may not be distinctly Halloween-themed, but it’s unsettling enough to make our list. In it, a newly-pregnant couple facing financial difficulties end up with an estranged stepmother moving into their front room and gradually taking over more and more of their lives. The titular front room is decorated with our Buttermilk vintage wallpaper, and the adjoining hallway features our Protea pattern printed on a burlap wallcovering. The bright, warm tones are in direct contrast to the dark plot of the movie.
If you’re in the mood for something a little more lighthearted, check out Muppets Haunted Mansion! This 2021 TV movie is delightfully silly, following Gonzo and Pepe as they try to complete the challenge of staying in a haunted mansion (inspired by Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride) for a full night. Along the way, they meet human ghosts and face their fears as they navigate the haunted mansion until sunrise. Custom wallpaper features ghoulish Muppet-esque characters in a parody of a classic damask pattern, all printed on our Silver Mylar substrate to make the eyes sparkle.
The Boogeyman is a supernatural horror film based on a 1973 short story by Stephen King. Two young sisters, and their therapist dad, are grieving the sudden loss of their mother. When their father’s troubled patient visits their home, he brings along a dark entity that feeds on human suffering. This early scene in the family therapist’s office features custom chevron window graphics printed by On Air on our Pebble Texture window film.
